Hi All,
After much deliberation ( literally months of agonising, comparing, weighing up etc! ) I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a brand new spanking beautiful KSS40.
One question after much searching that I have not found the answer for however, is how much depth needs to be accounted for when on the various different rails?
Having just cut through some 18mm MDF on the supplied cross-cut rail I was somewhat suprised that I didn't make it through when set to 20mm on the Depth Adjust....I kind of assumed that the depth adjust would refer to the depth when on the cross-cut rail, as this is what the system is mainly designed for but is clearly the depth when used freehand.
This would also lead one to assume that when on the cross-cut rail the max depth of cut is actually around 37mm?
Also curious as to what the actual max cutting depth with the Flexi and F-Rail is?

This makes a radical difference for me as here in the UK a standard 2x size for CLS is 38mm.Cutting this would actually be one of the main tasks for this saw,if it can't achieve this I would have to consider returning the saw!
A quote from AngliaToolCentre marketing blurb:
"With a cutting depth of 40 mm on the rail, virtually all sawing tasks arising during on-site assembly work can be executed – and in keeping with immaculate MAFELL quality standards to boot."
It's kind of crazy that it seems very hard to actually get any data on what depth it can officially cut on the various rails it is capable of running on...

From the official Mafell data:
Cutting depth without guide rail at 90° 0 – 42 mm
Cutting depth with guide rail at 90° 0 – 40 mm
So it would be safe to assume that the Cross-Cut rail add's 2mm I'm guessing?
Question is what about the Flexi-Rail and the F-Rail?

I guess no-one's any the wiser, reassuring though that I can get at least 40mm on the cross cut rail! Would be good to have data on the other rails, but I'll do some tests and work it out and post the results.

Well I've just marked each with a pencil and measured - 35mm with F-rail; 39mm with KSS rail; 41mm without rail.
Make sure the dust build up around the two riser posts is removed, this can compress and limit plunge depth.
(measured with a KEY-Blades 120mm blade - maybe the Mafell blade adds 1mm...)

Ahah! Excellent data, thanks for taking the time to do that.
The KSS40 made laying T& G Chipboard flooring almost a pleasure today, so light and quick on the flexirail and great being able to plunge when needed.Did 20m2 and only used 25% Battery as well - which is pretty neat!
It's kind of odd trying to work out the depth scale on the saw with your data and the official data as it means 40mm (max depth) on depth adjust actually means 42mm I suppose...

Yes, I gave up trying to understand the depth I was cutting to - especially with the MT55's where I am often switching between 162mm and 160mm blades.
What batteries are you using?.. I found the 5,5's are great (and the 8,0's too of course!), the smaller batteries affect power.

I think the batteries are 5.2, the ones that come with it...loads of power! Whats so great for me is the size, and the fact that I can do most tasks I need to do from one box... tested the dust extraction with just the bag rather than my festool extractor and it works amazingly well for an open sided saw.Makes life easy.

Rip blade is worth buying for decking or similar, also the fine blade for flooring - but the standard blade is pretty good and covers general work. I have a triple cut blade for solid surface - will probably get used more in the MF26cc.
Would like a bit more depth of cut, but it's a great compact size. Shame it doesn't ride on the longer KSS rails, but then they are very bulky. It is the perfect saw for decking or flooring.
