I have had my MT55cc for just over 3 years & it's only had light weekend use. Out of the blue it stopped cutting, accompanied by a loud screeching sound. It looks like the drive to the blade or possibly the motor is somehow failing. Not very impressive considering none of my Elu tools, the youngest of which is over 15 years old, has ever failed. I spoke to the UK importers who were helpful, but couldn't do anything as the saw was just outside warranty. Am I expecting too much for a saw of the supposed quality of the Mafell to fail so soon? Has anybody else had a similar problem with their saw? TBH I feel a bit underwhelmed with Mafell right now, especially when everybody seems to rave about the quality of their tools.

It would be interesting to open it up and see what the actual problem is. If nothing else it's worth fixing.

I've got a handful of Swiss made Elu tools that are roughly 30 years old and still going strong - I don't think many of my other tools will still be going in 30 years time, Mafell included. Can the UK importer at least have a look to tell you what has failed?

I spoke to the importer who were sympathetic, but because it was outside warranty it was going to cost me to get it looked at. I checked the price of the likely faulty bits & thought better of it! I ended up with the Bosch saw as it runs on the magellan rails. I have had the Mafell apart (why not, it's already broken so I can't make it worse) but I'm not an expert & couldn't see anything obviously wrong. I have to say the Bosch & Mafell are very similar inside, so I may put the Bosch innards into the Mafell, which will give me back the scoring & quick blade change!
