Well, next time I'll gladly pass the torch - I don't like returning stuff or buying stuff that don't get used but I am glad you are off the hook on this one.

No problem I’ll gladly step in , metabo missed a trick with this one I think ,what’s the point of the wheeled base they should have just put wheels on it ,wanting you to spend more money ? and you can’t even fit metaloc to it , seems like a cock up and their batterys are so good .thanks again henrun .

What tricked me was that Metabo actually states on their own website that Metalocs can be _stacked_ on top of the Vac. They just did not write out that they can't be locked... ...bastards. I am thinking I might hold on to it for a little while anyway despite the disappointment. It is the only decent battery vac I have come across that is both "cheap" - and runs on Metabo batteries. If I keep it I won't get the wheel base as it puts it in the same size as the Festool Mini, though of course still on batteries. I have to pay the return freight on it if I decide on returning it - which is 15% of what I paid for the unit as a loss already so if I use it a few times and don't abuse it I can pass it on and find someone who has the same take on it as me and will appreciate a battery vac at around half the price. Which isn't a huge loss considering it is actually a "cheap" vac.

Sometimes the lack of wheels are a definite bonus. Sanding a long flight of stairs, or even up high on scaffolding a simple, boxy vac just sits there with much less risk of falling. For me, there's much to like about the Metabo: cheap as chips, removable rolling frame, super-light weight, variable (2-speed anyway) suction, bigger dust capacity than (most of) the alternatives, & battery compatibility with at least some of my own cordless range are great features. The deal-breakers are, as you've already mentioned, no mains capability (meaning extremely limited 20 mins. runtime) & the utterly ridiculous lack of locking capabilities to other systainers. An onboard battery charger when mains powered would've been nice too, as would some form of auto on/off functionality. So near, yet so far! As it stands, the vac is pretty useless for sanding or sawing unfortunately. So is the CTL Sys, but for different reasons. As an aside, has anybody tried the new Metabo cordless riveter yet?

Huntsgemein: I was on the fence about the Vac, and as you said, standing in awkward spots it would be good NOT to have wheels. Wheels on would make sense with stacking other boxes on top but I agree that having the on/off option is never wrong, except the roller board is sold as an extra and should have been included.
If only they had enabled latching boxes I would have kept it: latching a hammer drill or circ saw box on top/bottom of the Vac and carry around on site would at least make me feel like it would be a keeper.
I did return it today however. We'll see what they come up with in the future. I am sure some people won't mind and will find the Vac a pretty good solution. Which it is, just not for me.

Perhaps if the shoulder strap has adjustable length or if an appropriate other strap is used, one could quickly tighten a systainer or two below/above the vac and the indentations + strap will keep them secure. This is mainly needed when carrying your stuff towards or away from the jobsite and in transport, so it would be an acceptable nuisance I think.
Other than that, the rolling base looks like it can be latched to systainers via the old style 4 latches.
All in all pretty disappointing, only kinda worth considering because of the lowish price and Metabo/Mafell battery line compatibility.

Yes, the rolling base can latch on to systainers/Metalocs - but in doing so you can't put the Vac on top of that stack securely.
In practice the strap would not help with extra Systainers on top. I did try but even with just a Size II systainer it was not a workable solution as the lateral pressure when lifting it up on the shoulder will press the added Systainer out of the indentations.
Once on site there is no problem "gravity stacking" them but for transportation they made a blunder.
I don't want to put anyone off buying the Vac as it is a pretty good vac for the money but the limitations are there.

About the strap, my thoughts were to somehow use it (or at least the hinges together with a custom strap) to tighten it around a systainer below or above the vac and then carry both by the handle of the one on top. Probably won't work well anyway...

I get it, it could possibly be a stop gap workaround but it would perhaps interfere a little with the top box handle. But it would work if putting the heap on a cart I guess.

This forum convinced me to be easy on Metabo and...gasp...postive and excited about their new gear. Well, we've got their new gear, now...and... 😂
Henrik, why are you torturing yourself? 😄
I'm still going to buy that rivet gun, though... if it ever comes out.

I am trying to be as practical as I can. If keeping within a battery platform means having to compromise a little I can do that to a certain extent. Since no single platform is complete, cross platform purchases need to be made but what bothers me is when reputable companies put out half baked products that "could have been great" or refuse to get with the times and fill in the blanks.

I feel yuh. I actually may still be interested in the Metabo offering. Bosch has some vacuum products that I was interested in for work, but I found out it's all bagless. Nope nope nopey nope.

The Metabo is a step in the right direction and cheap enough to warrant some merit. Just a few unnecessary flaws with the first attempt.
Festool SYS Vac works great with the Lamello on site and for general assembly work. Just wish it didn't have the cord...
