Price wise, I don't think that Mafell is marking their product up so much as I think that other manufacturers have just marked their products down for the US market. You can look at several brands (Bosch, Festool, Canon, just to name a few) and they're all priced higher in other countries. Mafell seems to keep their pricing fairly consistent across the globe. Obviously these larger companies reduce the margins made on individual items and make up the difference in quantity. Mafell is obviously happy growing more slowly and hasn't made this adjustment. Truthfully I think we're better off this way, as the quality of product tends to go down as the quantities rise. We don't have to look far to see proof of this.

Maybe a dumb question. Are they merging?

That's an interesting view on the situation. Actually part of the reason I like Mafell is that they are a smaller company that focusses on more durable solutions by producing smaller quantities, that's a much more sustainable approach imho.

Maybe a dumb question. Are they merging? You mean Bosch and Mafell? I have not heard of it, I assume it's more a strategic alliance to create a win-win situation for both companies.

Mafell is not just a Brand but a manufacturing company. They produce products for lots of tool companies including Bosch.
I think the merging of Bosch with Mafell is unlikely at best. Bosch is the (much)larger company and would be purchasing Mafell. Based on Mafell's history, line of tools, and business model this merging would be in contrast.

I mind someone telling me that all the tools that are made in Germany are made in a 20 mile radius if I remember right

If I'm not mistaken they made a router once for Festool and vice versa

If I'm reading this right, I should be looking to grab hold of some of the T344D blades if I am to attempt to tackle the 100mm oak sleepers I am working with currently?
Or am I wasting my time, and be honest, I am managing slowly with a hand saw but there are more complex cuts on the way and could do without having to manage all of them without picking up my P1CC.

I might go for those giant bosch blades for 4 inch oak. Are they straght cuts? The finish left with the big boys is rough but it'll get you through the material square.

Same question: are you making straight or curved cuts? I just looked up 100mm oak sleepers to get a feel for what you are referring to- I think those might be a bit much for a jigsaw. I'd make a couple cuts in something like that but if you have a lot of cutting to do a different tool would serve you better IMO.

Ideally straight cuts, was planning on also using them for cutting some tenons, but the stock is 150mm for those so actually, it won't help me, and as I'm nearly done on the straight cuts using a hand saw (which I am feeling this morning for sure) I suppose I could get them to be handy in future.
If anyone's used them I was just wondering if they were a waste of time. Haven't really ever pushed the P1CC.

I should be here by next week. I ordered a whole slew of blades... Some Mafell, but mostly Bosch... along with a 3 pack of Hitachi carbide tipped cement-board blades which I confirm work like a champ in 7.5-mm cement board. One set of the Bosch blades will do ~135-mm, and they look like beasts... They are labeled as 7" long, 6tpi, part number T744D3 (2 608 663 651) "cuts wood 5-5/16"

Should have gone for the Carvex Holmz. You won't know what all the moaning is about without having tried it

I do not abide with having 3 or 4 tools and then getting one that works. I like to go straight for the working one first.

If you find Bosch blades to be suitable for you check Hawera blades. 1/3 of the Bosch price and on closer look you see ony logo is different.
